The FBI's ten most wanted list was the result of a conversation during a card game between J.Edgar Hoover and William Kinsey Hutchinson, editor in chief of the International News Service in 1949.

Mar 14 1950 it became official. They are selected based on field reports from FBI's field offices.They are not removed until they are captured, cleared, or no longer present a particular danger.

Holden, triple murder in Chicago, was arrested in in Oregon Jun1951.

King, wife murder, from 1947 California, apprehended 1951, Philadelphia.

Nesbit listed 16 Mar 1950, jewel thief from Iowa, blew up his partner in attempted robbery of a jewelry co. 22 Dec1936. Later tried to kill another partner by beating her around the head in Minnehaha county while stealing dynamite. Caught 3 days later, sentenced to life, escaped, finally arrested in St Paul, Minnesota.

Mitchell, bank robber, remained at large for 8 years and charges were dropped because so much time had passed.

Pinson, burglar and police killer (shot) Oregon, sentenced 1947, escaped 1949, captured Aug 28 1950.

Downs, safecracker, arrested 1948, escaped, rearrested 1950 Daytona, with weapons, dynamite and fuses.

Jackson, car thief and hold-up artist, escaped prison 1947, caught 1950 Portland.

Wright, Karpis-Barker Gang 1930's, armed robber, escaped from life sentence 1934 - 1948 Oklahoma State Pen. Captured Dec1950 Salina, Kansas.

Shelton, kidnapping and car-theft 1948, arrested by special agents in gun fight 1950.

Gurainick, stabbed girl friend and bit finger off arrsting officer 1948. Escaped from Ulster county jail in Kingston New York 1948 and recaptured in Dec 1950 at a clothes store in Madison, Wisconsin.
