After she Dissappeared in 1943 the Wreck of the USS Wahoo has been discovered in the La Perouse Strait. She was commanded by one of the best US Sub commanders in the Fleet, Dudley 'Mush' Mortona and was responsible for the destuction of 21 enemy ships (60,000 tons) making her one of the highest ranking American Sub aces in the Pacific. Among her exploits was the complete, single handed destruction of an entire Japanese Convoy in which she sunk 20000 tons on a single patrol.

She was sunk with all hands by Japanese patrol boats and ASW aircraft.

UPDATE: Another sunken WWII Submarine believed found - USS GRUNION.

A shadowy object has been found on the ocean floor maybe the final resting place of USS Grunion. The USS Grunion dissappeared with all hands in the Aleutians Islands after being sunk in a surface engagement with a armed Japanese freighter. USS Gruinon is credited with sinking 2 Japanese Sub Chasers and damaging a third.

Many US subs were named after gamefish. The Wahoo is a gamefish. It's that simple.
