I'm probably going to be called crazy for this one but currently I'm in the AF and I'm wanting to go to the Marines. I've just found that the AF is way to easy for me and there are no challenges at all.
Is anybody familiar with the process of doing this?
 
At least now you are makin a good choice to bad you had a brief moment of insanity and now you are clear headed and goin to the USMC
 
Nope Nope Nope..Ive realised something in my life..if its not what you want, go for something you do!

And that ole rank thing well in the AF its kind of like you really dont command anything till E-5 but in the marines, remember they have corporals and sergeants that actually have leadership power , at lower enlisted grades.

Yeah that's true...That's one thing that I just don't like about the AF...You pretty much aren't considered capable of doing anything until you reach
E-5. I was surprised that they even deployed me this time because they kept saying that I wasn't ready and I didn't have enough training. I have been doing my job for over 2 years now. I just couldn't understand it.
 
Interservice transfers from active duty with one service to active duty with another is an option only to officers, as far as I am aware.

I know of cases where enlisted AD members have transferred to reserve and guard units, however, what is most common is going from reserve/guard to active.

I can tell you that your first step will be in contacting a recruiter, preferably one specialising in prior service enlistment. Most likely he will have to fill out a DD 368 Form for you. The AF will have to approve and release you, so do not expect much if you received a bonus, education payments or if your career field is critical.

If the Marine Corps Reserves ends up not being an option, and you're adamant about leaving the AF, you can always try the Army Reserves and Army National Guard. Just remember not to burn any bridges with the Air Force while attempting to leave them.

I must have misunderstood this post then (?)

If you plan on serving your time with the AF, then it will be fairly easy joining the Marine Corps afterwards. Talk to a recruiter when you get out.
 
he's got a point: you have a certain window (3 months, i think) to re-inlist without losing less than one pay grade in the switch.

You would still have to go through basic though. And i dont think it would be like the Air Force, where you test on the 15th day of training for release to the military without doing the whole 7 weeks.

Go to the recruiter. :D
 
Yeah I'm going to be doing that when I get back...I figured I'd try and atleast talk to people who've actually done it though first.
 
When I went through boot in we had a guy that was a E5 in the Army in our company and he had to go through the whole thing. I am pretty sure there is no testin out. Things could have changed but I doubt it, tradition is to much of a factor in that.
 
As far as I know there's not. Even if there was a testing out I wouldn't do it. I want to go through the whole thing because that's part of it.
 
If you want to switch now talk to your commander and a USMC recruiter. There is something called a powlace chase (don't know if that is how it is spelled) but it allows you to switch branches before your enlistment is up.

It'll be the hardest thing you'll ever love. I grew up as an Army brat and was my fathers first recruit. The Marines were just the thing I needed.
 
I had talked to a recruiter but they said that there wasn't anything they could do and that I'd have to finish up my enlistment...It really sucks but what can you do?
