Topic: Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You--General William Tecumseh Sherman

"Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country." was first used by General William Tecumseh Sherman.

I listened to a record of famous speeches with I was a kid during the early 1960s and this quote was attributed to General William Tecumseh Sherman.

Later, it was used by JFKennedy in his inauguration address Jan. 20, 1961.

I can't find the direct reference as everything is swamped by the JFK quote, but Sherman was the originator of that quote, not JKF.
