Understood?

Clarification on my post about Marines with SEAL training.

I'm referring to RoKMC and RoKN UDT/SEAL.
Not regarding the US military.

If you join the Marines you can become a Seal, as Seals are drawn from both the Navy and Marines.
NO
Says nothing about Marines being elegible.
In service transfers talks about SAILORS.

Now I know some Marines goes through BUD/s but they do not head for SEAL Teams.
To become part of a SEAL Team you must be a sailor, complete BUD/s and SQT.
Marines heading for MARSOC may attend BUD/s still I am alittle unclear on that part but they do not head for SEAL Teams.
03 or PJ will know the poop on that.

//KJ.

Certain USMC elements have cross trained with and gone to certain courses conducted by the NSW command at the Phib Schools.

Certain SEAL and SBU units attend certain USMC courses.

All SOF elements tend to cross train with other especially elements that tend to support one another or have similar missions.

FWIW:Any USMC personnel that go to courses conducted by SEALs will already have been combatant diver qualified.

Marines can not become SEALS without transferring to the Navy.
Correct
Nevermind.. Obviously they only went through parts of BUD/s namely divephase.

//KJ.

Certain parts due to their assignments, not basic dive. before the advent of Combatant Diver Course, alot of USMC personnel went to Coronado to cert on Drager Rigs. The Marine Drager Instructors were also trained there.

There are also certain other dive courses that are attended by Marines and conducted by SEAL's but that dosen't need to be touched upon.

the rescue swimmer is a very rewarding career, but the CG has a more combatant rate that is deployed quite often. It's the Maritime Enforcement Specialist. On some occasions they are attached with SEAL's.

Your opinion please

OK, I'm a cadet in NJROTC and I want to become a Navy SEAL. I'm a freshman in high school though, so recruiters can't even talk to me about it yet. So I want to have it all planned out by my senior year. I want to be a Ranger Primary, Diver Secondary... but should I join NROTC and become an Officer, or join up as an Enlisted? thanks

You have a higher chance of joining units like that as enlisted. Much fewer officer slots. I have known guys in that community who first joined as an enlisted and then after a year or 2 go officer. They felt that gave them a better chance of getting to stay in that type of unit.

i also read they allow the CG to go through the whole SEAL training now, and if the pass they get attached to SEAL teams. weird.:sniper:

X amount of USCG personel can go to BUDS per year, mostly O ranks and they get attached to Teams and can cross over from USCG to USN. In reality USCG loses these people. The amount is miniscule and the SEALs are not about to be overrun by Puddle Pirates.

My understanding is it's open to all ranks under the program but most have been O's thus far. Then they get absorbed into the NSW system for X number of months and are given the option of crossing to the dark side at some point.
