Never realised there was one off Hawaii, I thought they were sunk off Japan after inspection to stop the Russians getting hold of them.

it was brought back to pearl for inspection. i forgot the link

The U.S. Navy captured the I-400 and four other Japanese submarines at the end of the war and brought them to Pearl Harbor to inspect them. In 1946, the Soviet Union demanded access to the submarines under the terms of the treaty that ended the war.

Ah, I thought they were sunk off Japan to prevent the Russians getting them.
I remember seeing a documentary on the Japanese submarine graveyard which included the I400s but I was under the impression the location was around Japan.

I think it is this one that I am thinking of...

Still I guess we are digressing from the point of the thread, the I-400s were an interesting class of submarine and it is a pity that so little is known about them.
