The Perfect Plan

Here is a practice template to discuss plans.
Scenario 1: The Weekend Cookout.

Situation: Zombie outbreak is currently small but is gaining momentum. They have been spotted in every major population center and in some small towns as well. They have managed to cause massive panic and have hit the public and authorities alike with thunderclap surprise. Your current situation is ideal. It's a weekend and you and your team are all in one place (your place) having a barbecue.

Environment: You are situated in a suburb about 30 miles west of a major city with a population of 1.5 million in its metropolitan area. The terrain is mostly flat in the immediate area and is largely wooded where it is not urban. There is a mountain range a hundred miles west of your location.

Resources: You have a team of four, which does not include three other adults and two children. You have whatever it is your team has in real life or can obtain in real life with a simple trip to the store.

Training: You and your team are proficient in the equipment and other resources you have. The three other adults and the children do not have the training currently.

What would your plan have been and how would you execute?

Time permitting, you gather as many supplies as you can carry in off road or four wheel drive vehicles. Items iclude the basics. Food water weapons fuel. Camping gear and portable solar kits are nice too if you have them. Head for the hills avoiding others if possible. Find the safest location where z can only come at you from one side or would cause the most trouble getting to your position. Dig in. Use your surrounding to make defenses. Ideal situations would have some sort of stronghold or defensible structure in a mountainous area where you can replenish food and water.

@DeadEyes: You attempt to do so but realize the traffic is already too heavy. Panic has caused multiple car accidents and so your 4X4 is not going anywhere!
How do you adjust to that scenario?

We'd stack up on marbles and freeze some paint for our paintball markers before barricading the house including making a way up to the roof so that we can kill the zombies as they try to climb up. (Wed knock down the way we built up after we get up) Staying hidden would be the key to survival.

Barricading the stairs or destroying them would be far more effective than engaging them as they come up. Also, in terms of freezing, assume that you will lose electricity at some point.

Barricade the house, fortify the fences, use the roof to scout for any hordes or raiders, use rain catcher for water, use guns when needed, block the windows, made an indoor garden, ration food and water, have a jeep for going out on looting party's, walk/run/sprint or ride a bike to save fuel, no need for electricity, use a fire for food and warmth, have a radio at all times, if possible leave the city, use BB-guns for training, have a lookout rotation, set up traps in the front of the base, don't be loud, always avoid any unnecessary conflicts, trade with other survivors (if available), Carry a sidearm and melee at all times, hot wire empty vehicles and make a barricade with them, loot cars, keep the same number of survivors, and have everyone doing a job.
