Have a look how easy it is to make and conceal a 'lucozade' bomb and what it does to a fuselage of an aircraft without pressurisation! See stills 4 and 5 (video) at the bottom. This was planned to be used simultaneously on multiple aircraft crossing the Atlantic.

I'm amazed the security forces managed to foil these plots, and the airline authorities can spot these. They have been very lucky in my opinion, and things could have been a lot worse on the terrorist front.

I understand it was almost jeopardised by premature instructions from Bush to arrest militants in Pakistan.
 
I think its a relief that such operations are on-going. I wish these terrorists would just learn ...its their government that has their life going the way it has been going and the interference of their religious leaders who are the only other ones getting fed and getting fat . :x
 
Sometimes it's not about that.
Often it's more about them than anybody else.
They are angry and need a place to release it. And there are levels of anger where an individual will face death.
As for the ones who supply, train and orchistrate their activities... they have a political/economic agenda.
 
Hmm.. give somebody an education and they think they are leaders and above others ... :x they are the most annoying. I do agree with that political/economic agenda too since it happens at thome even for us.
 
Sometimes it's not about education or the lack thereof. Many terrorists are better educated than you or I. It is an anger they have. I know that sort of anger.

Some of these terrorists have a gripe about Israel occupying the bulk of Palestinian land whilst America turns a blind eye, others are upset about the invasion of Iraq or the ostensible invasion of globalisation with American companies at the fore. In other words these provide an excuse for angry young men. In this particular case:

Abdulla Ahmed Ali, the ringleader of the group, was shocked by the appalling conditions. His anger was compounded by the failure of the 2003 mass protest against the Iraq war.

The anger felt by men like Ahmed Ali turned him against the UK and America and he turned to radical Islamists who were increasingly calling for attacks on Britain.
As the security services watched some of the people moving in these circles, Ahmed Ali became an object of interest.

"Like many young British Muslims, I was 'radicalised' at college. Just as the three British-born men who were found guilty this week of plotting to blow flights out of the sky were recruited at school, I encountered extreme Muslims at the age of 16 and was slowly converted to their ranks.
At my East London college, the Islamic society was run by the extremist group Hizb ut Tahrir, which believes in setting up an Islamic state, destroying Israel, and denounces Western values.
At first, I, too, was convinced by their rhetoric. However one awful violent moment changed me for ever. A young African man was knifed to death by the Muslim contingent at the college, simply for being a non-believer.
After a petty row over the use of the snooker table, the Muslim group issued a call of Jihad against the young man and summoned their Hizb ut Tahrir contacts for 'outside backup'.
An operative arrived and plunged a dagger into the boy's heart. The victim's name was Ayotunde Obunabi and I saw him lying dead. To Hizb ut Tahrir his life was worthless because he was not a Muslim.
At that moment I understood the consequences of the rhetoric of radicalism.
The murder, in 1996, compelled me to walk away from extremism. Now I believe I have to speak out about what I see happening in Britain before a terrible act of terrorism claims yet more lives.
Although one fanatical Muslim cell has been caught, this is no time for complacency. Make no mistake, terrorism is flourishing in our country as never before.
Why? Because a toxic combination of politically correct policy, denial and fear have opened the way for hate to grow in our midst.
Unwilling or unable to recognise the scale and cause of the danger we are all facing, our leaders have turned a blind eye to what is going on.
There are now tens of thousands of Muslims living in Britain, physically present in our country, but psychologically attached to Muslim-dominated countries.

Large parts of our cities have become Muslim ghettos, where you can wake up in the morning and go to bed at night without seeing a non-Muslim face.
They might as well be in Pakistan or Afghanistan for all the contact they have with ordinary Britain. They can send their children to Muslim state schools, go to Muslim NHS doctors, and do business at the Islamic bank.
Not only this, but we, the taxpayers, fund many of these Muslim ghettos. When immigrants arrive in this country to claim free housing from the Government, they are given a choice of Muslim areas to settle in. Why do we allow this? Why not offer these new arrivals housing where they can integrate with the British people and learn about our nation's culture?
Meanwhile, our prisons have become recruiting centres for radical imams, or Islamic priests.
Around 10,000 ordinary Muslims are in our prison system, sharing space with convicted terrorists and extremists, putting them at risk of brainwashing.
But instead of protecting them from this, our system actually directs them towards these forces. So when a young Asian drug dealer from Bradford's streets goes down, he is designated a practising Muslim, whether he was previously religious or not.
He is issued with a prayer mat and a copy of the Koran and is handed over to the prison imams, many of whom come from the same Islamic school of thought that produced the Taliban. Time and time again, I have seen Muslims go into prison as young Asian men, and return to their communities as something very different.
Then there are the satellite television stations that freely transmit the radical Islamic message straight into British homes. Thousands of UK Muslims-watch the Islam channel for their news instead of the BBC or ITN.
The tragedy is that it doesn't have to be like this. There are four million Muslims living in America, and yet they are not producing 'home-grown' bombers like ours, despite America leading the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that are so often cited by extremists as the root cause of their grievance.
Because of their stronger national identity, the Americans encourage immigrants to join their culture and newcomers are expected to be loyal to the U.S.
For us, it is not too late. We can reverse the damaging policies that have made Britain a seedbed for terrorists. But if we fail to do so, I fear we will see further carnage unleashed on our streets."


 
Told you, there is this anger.
I understand some of it. Not that I think what they're doing is justified, but I know why they're angry. I've been around people who have felt the anger and the hate. Sometimes the reason is pretty flimsy, other times they do have a very good point for folks on their side.
 
Ed Husain -ex-Islamist, does not say anything like that. He makes a strong case for sorting out our ridiculous fall over backwards behaviour to feather-bed these malcontents. Their is nothing in his article to point towards any legitimate anger for these malcontents; he points to a terrorist campaign based in Pakistan with embedded recruits pampered here. He asks us to get tough with them.

All the anger here should be aimed at the malcontents by the public.

Read carefully what he says, he knows what he is talking about. We are such a soft touch we are making this country a haven for terrorists and a danger to the world.
 
Doesn't matter whether it's legitimate or not.
They are angry and many feel it's legtimate. Either that or all those other folks I've seen were doing a very good job of pretending! Sometimes if you mingle too much with them the anger rubs on you too. But you learn to distance yourself from that.
 
Yeah, I quite accept that. But what have they to be angry about; settled in a land where they have the benefit of state education and health , all free, living on generous benefits, often on the dole,kids growing up as normal kids until these Imams get at them with a twisted view of Islam, send them off to madrassas in Pakistan, indoctrinate them with a hatred of all non-muslims, and hey presto - religious suicide vounteers looking to rule the world.

So now they can't wait to bomb and destroy those who provide them with a haven and treat them as more than equals. They still can't wait to squeeze in here, continously and urgently, the disorderly queues are enormous, cavalry charges from all directions.

They don't have to come here if they are so angry; they have dual nationality so they can return to Pakistan whenever they want.

Ed Husain points out the must not get away with this nonsense, they are intent on our destruction and gloat to us of their dedicated intention.

Our government sins 1997 has sold us down the river, I believe history will show it was deliberate, to change the nature of our culture to suit their own ambitions.

Hard as I try, I cannot avoid that conclusion.

I think these *Muslim* schools should make mandatory ...studies of Western culture and *Terrorism*. US is adding that (pilot project I believe) to this school year curriculum. Allow no school to operate without these courses and only with qualified *western* teachers so no *twisting* of facts can occur. :| If they don't comply then close them.
 
Del Boy, when they take the benefits, they see it as using the enemy's resources against them.
Paradigm shift man... it looks very different from the other side.
There are many reasons for folks being in the UK while hating the UK.
The money's better so they may just see it as a way to get money off the infidel. Money they can't earn in Pakistan.
It's actually quite complicated and the reasons and views vary. But those staying in the UK will have their own "justification" for staying there.

I wonder how they'll have a class on terrorism in the US in schools when I bet the teachers don't even understand it.
 
I am not sure of the process but even teachers have to take schooling and most likely they will have course plans to follow and implement the learning which will be new lessons and experience for both teacher and students. I thought it was a great idea but sad that children have to learn about it but may help safeguard their own future. :(
