US 8th AF:
1942-1945=623,418 tons

964664+623418=1,588,082 tons

FYI, 864,000 tons of ordnance dropped during Operation Rolling thunder; 653,000 tons dropped during the entire Korean Conflict;503,000 tons in the PTO in WWII.

Major General Henry Schmidt, "the Dutchman", commanded the V Amphibious Corps, consisting of the Third, Fourth and Fifth Marine divisions, during the assault on Iwo Jima in 1945.

Sorry, but i think tomtom is incorrect, I believe it was General Holland "Howlin Mad" Smith, he was the commander of the Corps through the course of the war,

V Amphibious Corp was active from Aug. 25th, 1943 to Feb. 15th, 1946
