I came across this by accident when doing some work for Geogrpahy but I was rather entertained by it. The world's shortest war (officially) was the Anglo-Zanzibar War and it lasted 40 minutes. Basically some Sultan died in Zanzibar and the British told this guy he must never become the Sultan because they didn't like him. But he did and the British sent him an ultimatum to leave. When he refused the British blew up the palace his was in and this took 40 minutes. The war then ended. Here's a more detailed report on it:
