World's best soldiers ???
You know you are a great army when you are killing each other off in anxiety to get to battle like the berserkers.

Maybe not great if you only look at it from the standpoint of discipline, which I'll give you was almost nil, but it's hard to argue with the results.

I think it's wrong to compare the discipline of the Berserkes, who was only a small part of the Viking armies, to the rest of the viking soldiers.

Try to live on alcohol and mushrooms alone for a couple of days, and see how well you do socially after that..

Some info about the Viking tactics:

I think the mongols are probably one of the best. A bunch of nomadic tribesmen numbering probably no more than 1 million who mobelised there entire people and ended up owning the largest continues land empire ever.

Gurkahs are also prety good fighters to, Britian and India recrute them from nepal, and the british only take a handful, they have selection rates of less than 1% of the appliacants who turn up to join the british gurkah units, and gurkahs are very good with guns and prety deadly people even whithout any trainign whatsoever. The German army in WW2 (or it mite have been WW1) refused to attack any position held by gurkahs. The Gurkahs have won the most victoria crosses per man than any other unit (including the SAS) and Gurkahs have been known to continue fighting on with whatever they have long after they have run out of ammunition (throwing rocks, hacking peopl eot death with there traditional kuri knives). Gurkahs are probably one of the best groops of fighters in the modern world, and then they get given british training, wich is one of the best in the world, you can see what this adds up to.

The "Best" is a big question. Best at what? Overall performance would have to be American. Sure some countries have special units but if you selected 10 guys from each countries at random and put them through a side by side competition I bet the Americans would come out on top. The military as a hole is what beats you not individual acts.
