World's best soldiers ???
Well I think that a nearly 70 to 1 kill ratio when fighting with the same weapons technology is pretty dang near unbeatable.

They were the best because they were organized. The had a way of trainning and teachers that knew how to train them. They were the best in hand to hand combat as well. They were swift and deadly with a blade!!

But the Parsians were very lightly armed compared with the Greeks/spartans....I still think that the only reason they took half the world is that their army was so big and organized...

That is a major cause of their success. And they way they trainned. They trainned in actual wars. The teacher said"THE ONLY WAY TO LEARN IS TO FACE THE HARSH REALLITY OF WAR!!" Their swordsmen were skilled and viciouse!

I think I have to partially agree with the other guys and say that the spartans are some of the best soldiers in the world(back then) but you can't forget the Roman Legionnaires. But now I have to say that American Soldiers/Marines are the best in the world. I may have a slight bias. I have also heard that the SAS is sierra hotel as well.

Topic: manual

The Spartans were good because they had a way of trainning. They had a combat manual. As do other special forces. This is why spec. ops. is so good and well organized!

If my memory serves me correctly I saw something on the history channel about Thermopylea. I think we're talking about the same battle. Anyway, the fight was in a very narrow canyon or valley or something so only a handful of soldiers on each side could fight at the same time, and the rest waited in line. That just proves the Spartans could kick A .

Correct me if I'm wrong.

The Roman Legion was only as good as it's commander. The Spartans naturally, because of their scoiety, were great fighters. That being said Im taking the Mongols on this one, and if were talking current, Ill go with UK SAS.

This is where Spartan King Leonides made a last stand delaying action with 300 of his men against some 200000 Persians. Needless to say they were slaughtered.
