The 12th New Jersey at Hatcher's Run - Civil War - 1865 (Winter)
"The sight of the run may have made the 12th uneasy, for its veterans retained vivid memories of being cut off and surrounded in the woods below the stream. To take their minds off that event and also the pervasive chill of the day, they began to sing John Browns body as they continued south. Other outfits in the division soon took up the music. As singing spread alond the column, George Bowen feared it would alert Rebels lurking nearby. But he too belted out the tune, with all the bravado of a boy whistling in the cemetary."
Knew the end was coming and didn't have a care in the world - It just shows how tough some Civil War soldiers were, it was just like a walk in the park.
