Makhdoom Amin Fahim, 68, a veteran politician with a reputation as a consensus builder, emerged Friday as the favorite to become Pakistan's next prime minister under a power-sharing agreement by the two biggest opposition parties. Meanwhile, a roadside bomb tore through a pickup truck packed with wedding guests in the volatile northwest, killing 12 people in the first major attack since Monday's parliamentary election.
