When You're At a Loss for Words...

WHEN I GOT OFF the bus late one night at Camp Beauregard, La., and was hurrying to my quarters, I was confronted by a guard. "Halt! Who goes there?" he called out.

I gave my name, rank, serial number and Army unit, and waited patiently for the command to advance and be recognized. Finally I broke the silence with, "Aren't you supposed to say something else?"

"Yes," the guard replied, "and don't you dare move until I think of it."

Well, I found it funny.

And I'll add, a good sense of humor, in my own opinion, being quite helpful for someone retiring at the rank of 1st Lieutenant, such as Lieutenant Bird.... also, in my own opinion, helpful in regards to having the name Clarence.

Nice. LOL That would probably be me, having no clue what I'm supposed to say next. LOL
