WHAT WOULD A TEA PARTY NATION LOOK LIKE???????

found this nice game some time ago, maybe trying it out would give some people here an idea of the complexety of issues and of the way most democracies work in general, I liked it a lot. Only thing lacking is the corruption factor to the extent I think it has in societey, apart from that it´s quite a nice challenge to make it to the 2nd term... :)

Do you crave power? Could you do a better job of running the country than the people currently in charge? Are you sick of corrupt politicians making stupid decisions that benefit only themselves? Could you keep enough of the population happy to win re-election, and still turn around the economy and deal with the national debt? Be warned it's not as easy as it sounds...

Democracy 2 is the ultimate political strategy / simulation game. Based on a complex Neural network, the game simulates the motivations, loyalties and desires of everyone in the country. As president or prime minister, it's your job to balance the need for income from taxes against the demands of the voters. Do you want your country to be an eco-friendly green paradise? or a socialist utopia? Will you pander to the patriots, the liberals or the religious pressure groups? Can you keep crime under control without destroying the civil liberties of your citizens?

Democracy 2 covers the whole range of political opinion and policy, from debates over stem cell research and school prayer, through the provision of state health care and benefit payments to the unemployed, right across to tax shelters for the wealthy, the death penalty, military spending and civil rights. regardless of where you stand on political topics, you will have the option to put your ideology to the test.

Demos both for PC and Mac here: http://positech.co.uk/democracy2/demo.html

Sorry Rattler ...
The game is too complex .. and .. besides, it has NOTHING to do with the Tea Party movement and belongs in the Games threads..

I offered it (in its complexity) as a reality check tool to the people here that in political discussions keep offering simple solutions to everything and believe they really exist... THe Tea party movement appears a group of people believing in simple solutions, so I beg to differ as far as relevance is concerned: You can easily set up "What would a Tea Party Nation look like", but you just might find out that you won´t (and the people) not like the consequences... On Topic, Q.E.D. :)

As for the game itself, the interface is actually quite simple and easy to understand, but to balance the wanted and unwanted interactions of your actions and reactions and make sure that it is what enough people want so yoou get reelected... that´s another story.

Ya know the link in page one is the reason I do NOT associate with ANY political party or their agenda, I have my own views about whats right and whats wrong, mostly....theres a lot of other people that think like I do, ( or I think like they do), but I flat out REFUSE to go along with ANY group that could become a extremest organization.

but one part in page one caught my eye

hot tubing with a naked 15 year old? ......Well I guess that would be fine if you were a pedophile that needs to be killed.

The funny trend is that FOX News and MSNBC, possibly the two most opinionated "news" channels in America get the more ratings than the comparitively less opinionated CNN.
Extremism is the new in thing. CNN became less opinionated once they got rid of Crossfire but watching any "debates" on FOX or MSNBC for that matter, you can tell that stuff is obviously designed to make the network's endorsed views or party win. People watch those networks to see their views win over the other "inferior" views.
Hell, this old friend of mine who was generally rather mild about most stuff is getting defensive and angry about things giving me the whole "Hey, this is America" BS when in fact, I tend to trash talk just about every country I talk about.
Strange and rather unsettling times.

ACRIMONY ..............

There used to be a time when the majority of our citizens/voters were moderate, middle of the road, politically motivated .. and .. no matter how extreme the extremists from the right or left were, there was ALWAYS room for a discussion of the political issues WITHOUT ACRIMONY.

Today, the extremists from both sides have become so commonplace and entrenched, that there is no longer a middle road .. and .. thus, we can NO LONGER HAVE POLITICAL DISCOURSE WITHOUT ACRIMONY.

Shrill voices, extreme language, extremist labels, threats and worse ... the right no longer 'talks' to the left and the left no longer 'talks' to the right - politics has become one continuous battle between the political parties and Joe Average Citizen, ends up the loser.
