What are our chances against a full-scale alien invasion?
Say an alien species one thousand or more years ahead of us in every field of science, engineering, and technology were to launch a full-scale invasion from a floatilla of a thousand capital ships and their escorts, with the capital ships ranging from 30km to 3 km long, and the escort ships being smaller than that. What are our chances and how would the scenario play out? This is assuming they are here to conquer the world and harvest it's resources, and have already begun to strip mine the rest of the solar system. Let's also assume that the aliens are carbon based oxygen breathers who use water as their primary catalyst like we do, but are otherwise extremely different, looking something like a cross between a starfish and an octopus.

Didn't you see Independence Day? The Aliens lose. I won't give away how the Earth beat them, as that should be kept secret for when the next aliens attack.

Aliens that lose because their computer's operating systems are somehow compatible with ours and have absolutely zero firewalls or anti-virus systems deserve defeat.

Aliens can't survive against our bacteria, germs & viruses. Any damn fool know the common cold kills them!

Viruses are species specific. Bacteria can be dealt with their hyper-advanced medicine (heck they may even have nanites in their bloodstream that act like their natural immune system, only a trillion times more effective and badass)

They don't stand a chance.
All we have to do is sit back, relax and try not to do anything.

As I have said before they come all the way across the Galaxy unarmed? I think not, the first hostile thing they see and we don't have to wonder what Obama does next
