I am a bit ranty today: Despite having been living in this country (Spain) for almost three decades as an European citizen (I am German: European treaties give - in theory - equal rights for all Europeans in any EU member state) I cannot vote tomorrow for our (Spanish) government.

I have had to pay my taxes here for the last 28 years, I *have* to obligatory be censored here in order to live here (which means I cannot vote in Germany either: No vote for foreign registered citizens), I need to pay social security, I can be called for a jury in court, or for an election table as aide, but I cannot vote (nationally that is, regionally or municipally I can).

When I comment this to Spaniards (today we have "reflection day" where no political activity is allowed but discussions between citizens are appreciated) all I hear is, stereotype: "But you are German, what do you expect ?" (JFTR, Spaniards *can* vote in Germany if they have been living there longer than 5 years).

OK, my dear friends, sometimes it seems we have to fall back on our roots, so take this (for the not initiated, what we call football you in the US call soccer, and, yes, our "beere" are the best!):

Apart from being what I needed to listen to right now this song (more: the protagonists) have a special meaning to me, I grew up with them near Frankfurt and shared class with one of the two for a year, as well as the bars nights and the political environment we (and I) came from (I went into much more detail in this other thread long time ago, for those interested in my personal youth history: http://www.warandtactics.com/smf/the...4866/#msg14866 continued here: http://www.warandtactics.com/smf/the...4869/#msg14869).

So here to them, qoting myself, with another classic (in Germany of course, in their "Badesalz" incarnation: Mittermaier - the famous singer - is the guy in the middle):

Quote:
English came natural for all of us, with all the G.I.s around, here one that every English speaker will understand: Those guys were super creative, fun to be with, using every bit of new tech that came out (employing vid style of the upcoming music stations), did cross overs in the 90s, like with reggae, here with a famous German singer who was unable to follow the script and could not move his lips synchrone, as the subtitles state various times, from `96, "All we are smoking!/Smoke on the water!/Give me dope, Joana!":
The "really true" story of Jamaican Space Travel... : "The joint of no return, fly up for your right!"

Enjoy!
