Two of my favorite Christmas songs...performed by the Vienna Boys Choir

"O Holy Night" with lyrics

"Little Drummer Boy"

Come, they told me, pa rum pa pum pum
A newborn King to see, pa rum pa pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pa pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pa pum pum,
So to honor Him, pa rum pa pum pum
When we come
Little baby, pa rum pa pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pa pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pa pum pum
That's fit to give our King, pa rum pa pum pum,
Shall I play for You, pa rum pa pum pum
On my drum
I play my drum for Him
So to honor Him
Mary nodded, pa rum pa pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pa pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pa pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pa pum pum,
Then He smiled at me, pa rum pa pum pum
Me and my drum
When we come
Me and my drum

Louis Armstrong "What A Wonderful World"

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
and I think to myself..
What a wonderful world

I see skies of blue, and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
and I think to myself..
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands sayin' how do you do?
They're really sayin' "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
and I think to myself..
What a wonderful world...
Yes I think to myself.....
What a wonderful world...

Pavarotti performing the same "Nessun Dorma"

Lyrics in English:
No-one sleeps.... No-one sleeps,
Even you, O Princess,
In your cold room,
Watch the stars
Which tremble with love
And hope!

But my secret is locked within me,
No-one shall know my name!
No, no, I shall say it on your mouth
When the light breaks!

And my kiss will break the silence
That makes you mine!

(No-one shall know his name,
And we, alas, shall die!)

Vanish, o night!
Set, ye stars!
At dawn I shall win!

Wow that's a surprise. Who would have imagined the Yardbirds doing Puccini's famous piece Nessun Dorna? Here's several of the Yardbirds top hits. The original 1960's band included Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff beck at one time or another. They were one of the first bands to usher in the new era of rock.

Every time I heard this aria, performed by Pavarotti, I used to let the waterworks fly.
SO beautiful. I absolutely adore a tenor voice in opera.
But now I do not cry. I smile. The song that gets me EVERY time is "Time to Say Goodbye" ~ Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli.
It's on one of her CDs I have. "Classics". Also on there is Nessun Dorma. Her version of Ave Maria is VERY lovely.

Dadsgirl
No, I don't always listen to Rush.

A famous piece “O soave fanciulla” from Giacomo Puccini’s most famous opera “La Boheme” sung by Pavarotti. "Nessun dorma" was from the opera “Turandot Puccini’s final opera. Puccini was said to be Italy’s greatest opera composer after Giuseppe Verdi.

Jeff Beck performing "Little Wing" in 2011

...a tribute to Jimi Hendrix

Well she's walking through the clouds
with a circus mime that's running wild
Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams
and fairytales,
that's all she ever thinks about...
Riding with the wind
When I'm sad she comes to me
with a thousand smiles
she gives to me free
It's alright she says, it's alright
take anything you want from me
anything

Fly on little wing...

I'm listening to an oldie but a goodie.."Rose Colored Glasses"... John Conlee 1978..

So I just keep on hopin', believing
That maybe by counting the many times, I've tried
You'll believe me when I say, I love you
And I'll lay these rose colored glasses aside

These rose colored glasses
That I'm looking through
Show only the beauty
'Cause they hide all the truth

The Beatles..."She's Leaving Home"
m0841.gif

Wednesday morning at five o'clock
As the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more
She goes downstairs to the kitchen
clutching her handkerchief
Quietly turning the back door key
Stepping outside she is free
She
(We gave her most of our lives)
Is leaving
(Sacrificed most of our lives)
Home
(We gave her everything money could buy)
She's leaving home after living alone for
(Bye bye)
So many years
Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown
Picks up the letter that's lying there
Standing alone at the top of the stairs
She breaks down and cries to her husband
Daddy our baby's gone
Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly?
How could she do this to me?
She
(We never thought of ourselves)
Is leaving
(Never a thought for ourselves)
Home
(We struggled hard all our lives to get by)
She's leaving home after living alone for
(Bye bye)
So many years
Friday morning at nine o'clock she is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made
Meeting a man from the motor trade
She
(What did we do that was wrong?)
Is having
(We didn't know it was wrong)
Fun
(Fun is the one thing that money can't buy)
Something inside that was always denied for
(Bye bye)
So many years
She's leaving home
(Bye bye)
