What Are You Listening To Right Now

Induced by the mil-civvy thread, "Al los caidos" = "To the fallen", a traditional Spanish mil tune re-interpreted (the band changed the text quite a lot, especially the line "No quisieron querer a otra bandera" (= "They did not want to love another flag") to "No quisieron querer a otra tierra" (= "They did not want to love another country"), so now the main part says:

No quisieron querer a otra tierra / They did not want to love another country
no quisieron andar otro camino / They did not want to take another way
no supieron morir de otra manera / They did not know how to die in another way
a todos los caídos
/ To all the fallen
Rindamosles honores
a los hombres que han caído
el recuerdo nunca es muerte
no caeréis en el olvido

Valerosos temerarios
la muerte nunca os asustó
aceptasteis el destino

Orgullosos y leales
España en vuestro corazón
honor y gloria a los caídos

No quisieron querer a otra tierra
no quisieron andar otro camino
no quisieron morir de otra manera
a todos los caídos

No quisieron querer a otra tierra
no quisieron andar otro camino
no quisieron morir de otra manera
a todos los caídos

En la lucha camaradas
nunca os disteis por vencidos
siempre todo por la patria
vuestro honor es nuestro orgullo

Valerosos temerarios
la muerte nunca os asustó
aceptasteis el destino

Orgullosos y leales
España en vuestro corazón
honor y gloria a los caídos

No quisieron querer a otra tierra
no quisieron andar otro camino
no quisieron morir de otra manera
a todos los caídos

No quisieron querer a otra tierra
no quisieron andar otro camino
no quisieron morir de otra manera
a todos los caídos

Glad you liked it!

One of his performances (a Henry Purcell composition) I wish fo my folks to put on for my funeral:

What power are thou, Who from below
Hast made me rise, Unwillingly and slow
From beds of everlasting snow!
See'st thou not, how stiff, And wondrous old,
Far unfit to bear the bitter cold.
I can scarcely move, Or draw my breath
Let me, let me, Freeze again
Let me, let me, Freeze again to death!

While maybe not technically the best countertenor ever, he sure was way a head of his time (and maybe still is 20 yrs after his death?) with his magic voice and performance.

This one for the people that had nobody on Valentines to direct their love to, may lightning strike again! :)

I love that piece (Little Wing), and a lot of other people obviously also, it must be one one of the most covered pieces of all times: Stevie Ray Vaughn, Pearl Jam, The Corrs, Steve Vai, Santana, Clapton, Sting, Winwood and Metallica (to just name a few of the better known artists, there are *many* more) did it, and I guess its on the "training" list of any would-be guitar player.

Let me direct your attention to an especially nice version, of my personal "guitar god" Raimundo Amador (probably not so well known in the States but one of the world´s best guitarists, certainly one of the most influential in Spain) from a spontaneous jam session in 2009. For those who dont know what he looks like: He is the guy with the red guitar:

As a little gimmick (and as Raimundo actually comes from the Flamenco side and revolutionized it with his Blues and Rock influences in the 80s) here his famous "Pata Negra" piece "Blues de la Fromtera" which perfectly combines the two musical directions (and - even at his age today - another top bad ass solo as only he can play them):

And that´s how he started out: A piece from probably ´80 (he was 14 or 15) with his older brother Rafael, plain luxury...:

As my son says.."that's how you play a guitar".

This reminds me of my two younger boys, they're both learning (slowly but surely).

Thanks Rattler:rockin:

Sky, that's a beautiful song.:smil

The best

Hey! Folld down in Texas is one of my favorites, really: When I have to clean the terace in winter (we are only 7 ppl in the whole village over winter, compared to 5.000 in summer) I switch on my boxes on the outside and work to SRV´s tunes... :)

As I find someone here who seems to like guitar, here another one of our European masters: Ingwie Malsteen (real name: Lars Johan Yngve Lannerbäck, a Swede).

He plays a kind of what I call "space guitar", a sound to carry you way beyond (the northerners are like that, check out some Finnish guitar heroes if you are resistant to depression :) ), and technically about perfect.

A mean bad ass heavy metal rocker he also plays with all the other great artists from this genre, I chose the one with (vs. ?) Satriani and Steve Vai for this thread (as one said in a comment to this vid: "Here you simply have the KING, the CZAR and the EMPEROR! And it don't matter which is which! Unfreakin'believable!")...

Enjoy!

An aquaintance of mine, with the dream since youth of becoming an astronaut/space shuttle driver, just after having been accepted recently got diagnosed of a light diabetes and was removed from the program.

This story had me search for a song I remembered (Coming Home) by Peter Schilling (he had it in both German and English version), and during the search I ran into this new version (one way to know you are old is finding out that your favorites are not copyrighted anymore and anybody can convert/cover them).

In this case I like the result, while it cannot beat the original it has some interesting twists to the music, is definitely more modern and I am sure its fun to see it live. 80s and the singular and unrepeatable NDW aera coming back, revamped!

Turn volume well up to enjoy fully!
