What kind of training do you get?

I was wondering what kind of training all you guys get from your cadet units. Do you have summer training programs? What sort of things are taught? Can someone go over what happens on one of your regular training nights?

In my cadet corps we fall in, take attendance, then we are told whats planned for the night. Then we are split up into our star levels (Green Star, Red Star, Silver Star, Gold Star, NSCE) for lessons (map & compass, drill, fundamental training, marksmanship [usually happens on sports night], etc...). We have about 3 lessons a night with a five minute break and a half our break. After the last lesson we fall in for dismissal.

In the summer we can apply to go to a Cadet Summer Training Centre and take specialized courses such as marksmanship, drill & cerimonial, PERT (Physical Education and Recreational Training) and other such courses.

These are just some of the few thingsa that we do in our corps but i am very intersted to find out what kind of training goes on in different units in different countries.

Cheers.

We do marksmanship (different levels include air rifle, .22, and .223 (M-16 :rambo:).

We also do the usual drill/ceremonial stuff, some tactics, some strategy (naval science) and all that other fun stuff.

At CAP we fall-in for opening formation, then do whetever is planned for the night. It's always different. The 1st meeting of the month is service uniform. 2nd is moral leadership. 3rd is PT. 4th is ES

My old RCAirCS:

Regular training nights included nightly parade (aka: Form Up), classes for Levels 1 - 5 (the 5's didn't do much aside from teach), and not much else. Most of the courses are based around aviation, leadership, and basic survival techniques.

During the summer, camps range from Basic Cadet Training to more senior courses such as Flight Training (Glider and Power), Leadership Training, Survival Training, Technical Training, and Range.

I can't really tell you what goes on here at Richelieu Squadron, because there is way too much to tell, and I don't have the time to list it.

i'm in CAP

1st week-PT (physical traing)

2nd week-Aerospace Ed. and testing

3rd week-moral leadership and a lot of drill

4th week- ES, drill, make-up testing, and if we have more time we play drill games.

our sq. meetins are like this...sign in then fall-in, a senior member does inspection of uniform, etc. then we do whatever is planned for that evening. Then we fall-in again for closing thats when they tell us about future CAP activities....

 You guys are talking about Sq meetings and "we do what is planned" like it is nothing! Sorry, I'm starting to feel old, and like I have been in CAP too long again....it's one of the phases, I'll get over it sooner or later.

Ok, so most CAP Squadrons run from about an hour and a half to two hours. Within that time is Opening, then whatever that Squadron has set for that week. As noted above, most Sq's have a set standard for each week, i.e. 1st week or month- ES, 2nd week- PT...etc, then closing. Outside of the Sq is weekend activities. These activities are held at group, wing, regional, and national level. However, you will find that there are more group and wing activities available to most cadets- some activities above group have prerequisites. Although not every wing is the same, most activities offered are Basic Cadet Schools, Airman Training School, NonCommissioned Officers School/Academy, and Emergency Services stuff. There are other activities like Air Shows, but they are not considered leadership training...not in the sense of learning at a academy type activity.

Most Wings and Regions have Encampments once a year (some also have winter encampments) it is designed to train cadet's in a Air Force and very structured environment, but it is also fun. Beyond that would be National Activities varying from learning how to fly to a Pararescue Introduction...although that is a understatement.

So yeah, we have training opportunities all year 'round lol.

1800-1824: Cadets arrive, attendance is taken
1824-1830: Inspection
1830-1835: dismissal and retrieve instruments(or weapons, or fall in)
1835-1850: March-past and Colours ceremony
1850-1900: Arrive and prepare for classes
1900-1930: Period 1
1930-1935: break
1935-2005: Period 2
2005-2020: Stand-Easy
2025-2055: Period 3
2055-2105: Prep for Sunset and marchpast
2105-2120: Marchpast and Sunset
2120-2130: announcements

Most of the training we do is based on the phase(level) you're in. Phase 1 is mostly drill, phase 2 is mostly seamanship, phase 3 leadership, phase 4 and 5 are usually teaching or organising training. As for summer camps there are 4 basic trades that you can get into: Sail(sailing), Music, Gunnery(drill, dress and deportment), and Bos'n(seamanship) After that there are specialist courses you can take, unfortunately alot of these are getting cancelled:(

Let's see at the Unit level-

We have:
0900-Muster
0915-Military Drill(Marching)
1030-Classroom(different things)
1155-Chow
1255-return from chow
1300-Muster for PT
1305-PT
1445-Clean up/ Awards and presentations/ announcements
1500-departure

Then all Cadets must complete a Boot Camp Evolution standard time is two weeks. Then you have Advanced Training (i.e. Field Ops School, Seamanship, Petty Officer Leadership Academy, etc) we have the widest variety of Specialty trainings possible, all schools are standard Two weeks, while some are longer. Bermuda Exchange 21 Days baby.

First week is usually what ever is planned with PT. Second week is Morale Leadership. Then AE (Aerospace Education) with more PT. Then Testing (written and PT) then on any 5th thursday we do whatever.

wow. you guys get some really cool training. I wish we had NCO academys and stuff like that. If only DND would give us the funding for better training resources :(

we train all year round for drill, color guard, aerospace, general knowledge, flying, everything and anything we can. we also have programs that we go to like hawk mountain, and encampment, and my squadron goes on trips to washington d.c. and other historical site. we also try and hook up with other squadrons and see what they do + have alittle compitetion here and there lol

For more info on Army Cadey Summer Training you can go to:

Here at ROTC we have field training and Proffessional Development Training or PDT.

Field training is a mandatory one month program between your Sophomore and Junior years. It's an essential part of the officer training program and in some ways is boot camp on steroids.

There are several different PDT programs. From job shadowing an Air Force officer, to army jump school. And I mean the actual jump school with the majority of those there being active duty army servicemen.

And yes, AFROTC cadets can go to jumpschool, however it is much more difficult for them to go them for Army ROTC cadets to go.

there is SO much in the summer time i can't list all of it, it all depends on what you are interested in. I can list some that I have gone to....and other things people in my squadron have gone to, but other than that theres too many programs to list them all
