Where do I stand Gator? I distrust all politicians equally and without fear or favor. I really don't know what idealogical clique I belong to, but no doubt others will put me in a box that they feel suits me.. I can live with that.

Over the years I've been accused of being everything from "Somewhere to the Right of Genghis Khan, to a Red ragging Communist" and just about everything in between. I guess it pretty much depends on the political stand point of one's accuser.

A bit like another debate I know of on this Forum.

I'd say you're more like me, in that regard, as I have no Political Party.

As for myself, I doubt there are many which would like my views on Politics here.
I serve a Nation, I'm sworn to a piece of paper, the United States Constitution, I serve no Political Party.
Sure, I do not like President Bush, but, I'd die for him, all he needs to do is give the word, I fail to see what more President Bush could ask for of me.
Speaking of President Bush, the most powerful man on Earth.... President Bush did not have the power to order me to vote for him, he needed to earn that, which, he did not.
I do not like the Party controlling the Congress that at the same time controls the White House, as there is no check on Power.
I also view it as a good thing when the Political Pendulum swings back and forth.
I've been called everything from a flaming Liberal to a Jack-Booted Nazi, and I've never belonged to a Political Party in my life.... I’ve always been No Political Preference or Affiliation, which works out better in my opinion while in the Military, that way people in the Military belonging to a one Political Party or the other would not be able to place me in danger simply because I belonged to one Political Party or the other.

I'm a however a fervent Nationalist, I believe everyone in America should to pay homage to the Federal Government, and as for States?.... well people move in and out of States all the time in America.
I also believe if any State or Confederation of States gets out of line the Federal Government needs to jump in, and jump in hard, and fast. If the State or States stand up against the Federal Government, well, then people need to start dying in very large numbers.

As for the Military, I do not believe it should be allowed at all that Troops on Active Duty (or claiming to be on Active Duty) be able to voice a public opinion which delves into the political realm, at all.
If I had it in my power, anyone on Active Duty found out to be doing such would be dishonorably discharged, because, in a 2 Party system, once one publicly stakes out a position politically, well, one lines up against one Federally Elected Group or the other.
Like in today’s World, when members on Active Duty talk trash on the United States Congress publicly, or the White House publicly. I view each action as equally wrong, and I would strengthen what laws are on the books and get rid of them, because they are not good Soldiers in my opinion, as they serve a mere Political Party, and not the Nation.

And if said Troops did not like such, and view such as wrong, well they can unass the United States Military... better Troops will take their place as far as I'm concerned.
There was a small movement, very small, here in the US, a movement which sought to take the right to Vote off members of the Active Military…. never got very far, but after seeing what has happened to America in the last few years Politicaly, well, I’m all for it, as I view the United States Military today as a mere military force of a Political Party, and I view such as the fault of the Republican Party in t he United States of America today, but, I can see the Democrats wishing the shoe was on the other foot and the Military in America was the Political Military Force of the Democratic Party.

I may not be quite as fervent as yourself, however it seems our that our views on politics and the Military are very similar. Many years ago I made a number of enemies in the Seaman's Union (very Socialist/Labor) by publicly stating that Union affiliation with political parties was not advantageous, as once a political party realises that they have you in their pocket they only give you lip service, whereas if it is thought that you may be a swinging voter they will take far more notice of you. No one supported me at the meeting when I stated this, but it was amazing how many agreed with me in private,... great mates NOT.

I also abstained from voting whilst in the Navy for the same reason as yourself.

I am close friends with a local Liberal politician Ivan Venning we grew up together, yet our views are vastly different on many issues, and he often alludes to the fact that I don't vote for his party, to which I always answer, "Ivan, The man who thinks he knows who I vote for is a fool". When I see or write to local politicians about any issue, I always go to both.

If some of you're not happy about the way this forum is run then I suggest that you present this to the forum staff in a constructive way and not make it into a public "pissing contest".
We are always open to new suggestions on how to improve the board and the way it's run.
(and I don't think you have any idea how much work we put into this....)

And if you're not happy with that then no one's been forcing you to stay here in the first place....

Thanks
