I believe the Western World is not responsible for the death of millions of people living in deep poverty and famine in Third World Countries. We are not the ones responsible for your suffering, corrupted government and dictatorship is the reason your people is starving. Most Third World Countries have the right climate to grow vegetation for its people, but instead they grow opium and other types of drugs. If the level of education is raised in Africa or the Middle-East, families would stop having 20 children per household and understand the difference between right and wrong.

I agree, we cannot bail you out of everything. We can help if you want to change things, but you gotta have a plan. I spit on the goverments of most of these third world countries, they do nothing to help their people as they starve and kill each other. I think serious reform is needed over there, and you have to learn to fight for yourself.

Even America, one of the most powerful countries in the world, can barely help its own people let alone people on the other side of the world. Take care of your own backyard before you help anyone else with theirs

We can help our own people, however the economic type laid down in our Constitution prevents us from doing too much to help our own. It's one of the benefits of capitalism- it minimizes laziness and maximizes income in our country if people actually have to work for a living instead of sitting on their couches living off a socialist paycheck.

Anyway, I don't think that the rest of the world should blame us for their problems, and any attempt to do so is denial. We spend so much of our taxpayer's money on foreign interests its ridiculous. We hand money out to other nations all of the time, and don't ask a cent in return usually. (cough WWII cough cough). You can't blame everything on the US. Take some responsibility!

ya, the western world isnt all happy sunshine and wealth

Drugs... damn, whoever takes it is going down the drain
it seriously is bad in this society

guns+alloance- killing, tons, gangbang happening

*loss of manfuctoring jobs

It Took Us a Bloody 2 World Wars and around 200+ Years to get to where we are, Let us enjoy it we deserved it. It isn't our fault That You feel for the promises of a crazy Government. Also isn't our fault your government is in the sahpe it is in. Let us spend the money on US and not YOU. We give out food in Africa yet we cannot feed all of our own population. We build Houses in South Asia Yet we do not have enough houses here. WE Give Out Billions in Aid Yet we cannot afford to keep up with our own programs. All of these 'Poor' nations should get off thier royal butts and do something for once and not exspect good ol' USA to come and bail um out.

....Okay I am done preaching.

I think more and more Americans are starting to feel that we should be isolationists....worry about ourselves, and JUST ourselves. And, with how the world treats us, and how everything and ever step we make globally is judged, it sorta makes one feel angry. They all "hate" us, but certainly have no qualms with taking billions in financial assistance.

But, our forefathers, most notably Thomas Jefferson saw us as being an intrical part of the world economy, and a indispensable influence on the world. We cannot turn around and change that now.

Yeah we can, we did it before we can do it agian.

Without America the world would be in trouble even China, without America china would not have the economy they have because alot of thier exsports go to America and alot of thier imports come from America.

So even the 2nd richest nation in the world needs America's help.

My sentiments exactly. We are not at fault, but we can help you if you want to help yourselves.

No. It is the responsibilty of the leaders of these nations. What happens to the money we give them?or the food. They pocket it or sell it.

I remember vividly distributing food in Somilia and once the people had gotten far enough away the Adids boys would take it from them.

They would like to blame us but in reality they starve their own people.

While it's no secret that the colonial activities in Africa screwed things up big time there's only so much you can blame on the Colonialists.
If you say is the West responsible for the deaths of millions... I don't know. Could be. Simply because of their scale of involvement around the world not neccessarily because they are "evil."

i.e. a population of 5 million will have a higher death per month count than a population of 500,000. Not because the bunch with 5 million are in poorer conditions but simply because there's more of them. Same goes with scale. A guy would make more mistakes after making 500 decisions, than if he makes only 10 decisions (theoretically speaking).

However there are some things that happened that incline me to say yes. The Holocaust is a big example. The way World War I started also inclines me to say yes as well. It was started because of bureaucratic laziness. Indirectly also with the creation of Israel. That alone sparked many wars. Whether it was right or wrong is another argument, but it's true that doing so lead to a lot of deaths.

Again... it's really only because of the scale of involvement.

ok we didn't cause any suffering or poverty and the government for these countries is to blame, but we shouldn't turn a blind eye, its the people, the everyday normal people who are suffering, not the government, they are helpless and are not given a chance for a happy life like we are its easy for us fatcats to sit back and say to hell with it while millions of children die from suffering and diseases, if we all ignored it we would be a dam selfish world.

its good to give a helping hand and to let them people who see their children die, and children who see their parents die every day of the week know that some people in the devolped world do care, even if their governments don't.

"Don't think only about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and what they are doing."
Philippians 2:3-4

"Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the orphan. Fight for the rights of widows"
Isaiah 1:17

you can't argue with the bible!

The problem being that while the West sends aid it's the peoples leaders who withhold it from them to further their own profits or agendas.

Plus we get blamed for everything once we get involved.

Yep we become war mongering imperialists who enforce our will on the poor peace loving masses in the 3rd World.

Gotta love it.

I think it is not the West fault.
Globalization is a powerful tool of integration and of development. Ask South Korea or Taiwan. Ask Singapore, Malaysia.

The US, like I said long ago on this forum, is in a EWYGYC situation.
It means Either Way You Go You're Screwed: the US intervenes? Imperialists. The US stays home? Selfish rich fat people.

we are selfish rich fat people its a fact

With the amount of aid we send, how can that be. We attempt to aid nations and are vilified for it.

More than one Western solider has died to end famine, tyranny, genocide, and ethnic cleansing in the third world. Only to be forgotten not only by the west but the very people he was sent to aid.

However if your statement makes you feel enlightend go ahead.

Ireland must be one of the smallest populated countrys in the world but yet were thrid for over seas aid.
