= allows the employer to pay lower wages by telling the staff, they will make it up in (nearly always unearned) tips.
It is one of those strange false economies you run into around the world though as most of the people I have spoken to about it see it as a way to keep the food prices low and yet in the end they still pay the %15 before they leave.
Personally I don't see the difference between putting $15 on $100 bill and leaving $15 on the table after paying the $100 bill, but it seems to keep them happy.
In every other job it is expected that employees do their absolute best,... or it was "out the door" Or in this case treat the customers like kings, they are the people that keep you employed, no customers,... no job.
Yes but it is possible to see the difference between someone doing the job adequately and someone going out of there way to do the job well or someone putting in the minimum work to pass.
Personally I am still a fan of just paying people a working wage, scraping tipping and factoring the price difference into the product.
