want to join the coast guard

I would repost your question in forum marked "Joining the Military", thats where all recruitment related questions go and I am sure someone can help you out there.

I would definately post the question in the "Joining Military" forum. I'd also talk to a recruiter and go to your local VFW or American Legion nd ask questions.
