False Dates on VA Claims In a newly released report, the VA concluded that management at the New York City regional office had, for years, directed employees to backdate veterans' benefit claims. Bill Addresses Vocational Rehabilitation The Chairman of the Veterans' Affairs Committee introduced a bill that would allow the VA Vocational Rehabilitation program more flexibility in paying for rehabilitation-related expenses. Ohio Voters to Decide on Vet Bonuses Voters will decide in November whether Ohio veterans who served in recent conflicts should get state-paid bonuses of up to $1,000. High Court Rejects Agent Orange Case The Supreme Court turned down American and Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange who wanted to pursue lawsuits against companies that made the toxic chemical defoliant used in the Vietnam War. Anthem Celebrates 78 Years In 1928, the U.S. was the only modern nation in the world without a sanctioned national anthem, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars took on the fight to make The Star-Spangled Banner this country's national anthem. Hearing Addresses Rural Veterans The Chairman of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, recently held a hearing on improving care for rural veterans. Legal Assistance in Illinois The Veterans' Legal Assistance Program (VLAP) through the Southern Illinois University Carbondale School of Law handles disability claims cases for veterans throughout Illinois. San Diego State Seeks Veterans San Diego State University is actively recruiting veterans as students. The university recently opened a veterans' center and fundraising continues for scholarships. Vietnam Veterans Launch Health Council Vietnam Veterans of America recently launched its Veterans Health Council website, which offers information on the health risks encountered by the military and the resources and benefits available to them.
