Venezuela to Replace U.S. F-16 Fighters With Russian Su-35s

F-16vsSU-35 is like an F-22vsMiG21... He is actually upgrading and getting hardware from a reliable source with no attached conditions vs the U.S which has so many strings attached... He is getting the best buck for his money can't blame the guy he is smart

The SU-35's will have to deal with F-22's. The F-16's will destroy the remainder of the SU-35's on the ground.

If I was VZ, I'd opt for a comprehensive air defense Grid.

Planes are expensive, and unless they have plans to invade one of their neighbors I don't see the point in buying so many.

If the U.S. wants in, they will get in, for a police action or all out war. Each plane lost per capita is more than for say a mobile S 300 platform.

And if all else you can stash S 300s all over the place while planes are restricted to air bases.

This would be important in a defensive situation against the U.S. because the USAF has been blowing up enemy planes on the ground since 1941.

the priority of purchasing or making of weapons is depended on the defense politics. For example about Iran spending a lot of money to buy for example 200 SU T-50 or F22 or the same developed planes ( Although they will never sell those to us) is not a good decision when they could spend 10% of this money to have a developed air defense system like S300(Although the same as the planes they will never sell them to us too). you cant do anything with 200 planes when you are attacked by 2500 planes. at this situation having a good air defense grid is not enough but a least is better than plane. Or the cheap but fast high speed patrol boat is the best weapon for Iran against the US developed navy instead of buying expensive warship.these boat attack like a group of bee who attack to a bear.

And gives USN CWiS operators and Gunners Mates wet dreams.

Whats your point a press release from Admiral Fox saying that the USN has a wide range of options to deal with the threat?

I am sure you don't know anything about war.

No, the man has no idea what he's talking about. :sarc:
You need a reboot - Your ass is set as default.

Yes he has said that the USN has a wide range of options to deal with the threat and absolutely nobody expect him to say that we can't do anything or we cant deal with this problem or the same things (at least with media).
But if you pay attention to his saying you can find that the subject is not as easy as you thought.
"Some of the small boats have been outfitted with a large warhead that could be used as a suicide explosive device"
"We are very vigilant, we have built a wide range of options to give the president and we are ready... What if it happened tonight? We are ready today."
And just the Iranian small boats were close to the US navy. the movies are on internet. So why didn't you dare to shoot them?

To keep from escalating tensions. You would also need to explain how close they got to it. You are only allowed a certain amount of space close to U.S ships before being fired on. You should flash yourself back to how well U.S handled Iran's navy during Iraq-Iran war before thinking Speedboats are going to be entirely successful.

Outside of surprise (a la the USS Cole), the small boat "record" since World War II fails to live up to the modern-day hype. Certainly, small boats are not things to completely disregard, but I do have serious doubts about the danger a swarm poses to a prepared US vessel. The proof just ain’t there. Once a fast boat swarm is identified as "hostile," those small boats tend to lead relatively short, exciting lives. In 1987, U.S. helicopters made quick work of Boghammar speedboats, and during the 1991 Bubiyan Turkey Shoot, helicopters helped sink or damage 143 small Iraqi naval vessels.

However much we may disapprove of the Iranian government and its policies, moreover, one of the inconveniences that we must simply accept is that, for various reasons, it is a force to be reckoned with. It has a population of just under 70 million. It is located in a geopolitically significant position. It sits on a lot of oil. And there are important international actors who do not agree with the view that it can be (or should be) brought to heel by military means, including a few who think that the way it does its politics is in accord with the preferences of God, as well as being perfectly understandable in the light of its twentieth-century historical experience. All of this is tiresome, no doubt, but it does suggest that responding to the challenges that Iran poses to western interests may require a more nuanced array of responses.

10 km around the US Aircraft carrier is zone and no plane, ship or anything else allows to enter this zone. but this low in Persian gulf doesn't have any mean.
the below video shows the Iranian Marine Police boats close to one of the US warship. about 500 meter.

and the below link shows the movie took several years ago by one Iranian drone from Ronald Reagan Aircraft carrier about 25 minutes.

you talk about an involvement which occurred about 25 years ago when Iranian new government ( after revolution 79) was involving in a 8 years war with Iraq and her supporters( Arabian dollars and west and east weapons). Although we lost 2 warship in this war but the main point is that we didn't scare to have another involvement with the US at that bad condition.

Iranian speedboats? That's the secret weapon?

Outside the arsenal carried by the US warships, there are also helicopters and SWCC boats. They're not gonna repeat a USS Cole type of attack while they've got a whole task force present, and all eyes are on the sea.

You seem to not be thinking this through. When a nation is in a state of war, their military assets are prepared for immediate strike or defense. Heli's will decimate any chance of speedboats getting close to any ship of importance. Speedboats would not help Iran at all in a naval conflict with the likes of U.S. You may say 25 years ago, but it would be no different.

Sometimes it is a good idea to be smart instead of brave... It is not about being scared of U.S or any other greater power. You guys lost unnecessary lives by trying to compete with U.S who actually gave your troops and sailors warnings of attack to prevent loss of life. Now imagine a U.S actually trying to decimate your Navy (without warnings) and you will see that 25 years is not much time to prepare against it.

There's a huge difference in ROE in peace time and war. The Iranians were able to get so close because they were not seen as a threat. The ROE of the USN in peace time does not allow to destroy anything that gets too close. In wartime it does. So all those supposed close encounters will not happen in wartime. Their mission will stop as soon as they are within range of the USN defense systems.

These types of boats was also used by Germany, Italy and Japan during the war. It was no great success. And with the defensive weapons systems we have today; Well ............!

I didn’t say no doubt the speedboats would be successful in a naval conflict with the US. I just did a comparison between the speedboats and warship in Persian Gulf. I think according to Persian Gulf geographical conditions, using speedboats is more practical for Iran than using warships. Those are cheap, small and a lot, some of them has a speed about 65-70 Nat, some of them are equipped to 35km and 15-20km rang cruise missiles (Nasr 1 and Kosar), some of them are equipped to air defense system, some of them are unmanned, they discovered by radar hardly and the most important thing is that all of those have been made in Iran.
In the Persian Gulf where the average deep is about 50 m and the widest part is about 180 km and with limited shipping zones that can be more restricted by mines, Using small speedboats or midgets is more practical than big warships. Admiral Fox talks were about these threats.
And it is why when the likelihood of conflict be increased, the US transfers their Aircraft carrier quickly to the India Ocean and come back with Franc and Britain warships. The last transfer was when Iran was preparing to do a maneuver around the Hormuz Strait.

Ha Ha Ha Ha HA... you know, I have not laughed so much in the past 30 minutes...

This reminds me of the time that an Israeli PT boat captain challenging an aircraft carrier somewhere in the Med during a foggy weather... just could not stop laughing when I read about it...
