In Lebanon, the Signals Platoon's always hard working telecom sqd had finished fixing a phone wire to one of our positions, and returning to HQ. As always the sun was burning hot and the lads where sort of tired, as they climbed into their truck.

The driver, who here will remain anonymous the protect the guilty, was especially tired. But he came wide awake when he spotted something looking like a hand grenade by the side of the road.

Curses erupted from the back, as he called it in, while the boys closed the road.

EOD was on the spot within minutes. The perimeter was secured, medics where on standby, nearby houses evacuated...and then the EOD officer, all dressed up in his bomb suit hobbled over to have a look. But no suspicious objects could be found.

Our man was questioned, and he excused himself with being tired, and may have mistaken the location as he only spotted it as he drove by.

A search started...lasting for an hour, until the "UXO" was found. A pair of small, fragmentation grenade sized baby tortoises....
