The remains have been discovered of aircraft carrier the USS Lexington, which went down after a World War Two naval battle.
The ship was hit several times by the Japanese in the Battle of the Coral Sea off Australia.

I have never agreed with the proposition that the Coral Sea, Guadalcanal, and PNG "saved Australia from isolation from the US" etc.

Maritime sea routes can be changed in a day to such as Melbourme-Auckland-Pearl Harbor-San Francisco, reducing the threat. When the Suez canal was blocked in '67 they went 'via the Cape' overnight and for 7 years!
Amazing how many historic wrecks have been located with the aid of rich men like Paul Allen.

Yep yet with all the electronics of todays world we cant find MH-370

Remember that the search area for both were vastly different. They knew within a mile or so where the Lexington was, and had not much more than guesswork on where MH370 may be.

It MAY be in the Sea of Japan!
