BAGHDAD, Dec 12 (AFP) - A US soldier has been killed by a suicide car
bombing during combat operations in western Iraq, the US military said
Monday.
The soldier, who was assigned to the US marine force operating in the
volatile Al-Anbar province near the city of Ramadi, was killed on Sunday.
US and Iraqi troops have conducted numerous operations in the troubled
district ahead of Thursday's landmark general election for the country's
first full-term parliament since Saddam Hussein was ousted from power in
2003.
According to the last update of the Pentagon website on Thursday, 2,138 US
military personel have been killed in Iraq since the 2003 US-led invasion.
