BAGHDAD, Oct 20, 2006 (AFP) - A US marine was killed in Iraq's western
province of Al-Anbar, the US military announced late on Thursday.
The marine died in "enemy action" and came from Regimental Combat Team 7,
which operates along the western Euphrates river valley between Ramadi and
the Syrian border.
The latest casualty, part of a month-long surge in US fatalities, has
brought the number of US servicemen killed since the March 2003 invasion to
2,780, according to an AFP count based on Pentagon figures.
