US Army Rangers SF?

Ok then

Ok then I will just sit back and listen to the experts, heck I was just a cook for the coast guard more than likely. you know Sometimes you try to rush and give a short run down and I should have known I should have been more specific about it all. Totally just trying to give a short version and blasted but hey I was a cook. Sorry I should have just sat back and read instead.

When I see how serious the Marines are with the Corp... I think that the Marine Corp will be a real cult in the future. With its own saints, holy books etc...

If it's not already the case ^^ They already have their own way to speak. I cant get enough of the "the opinion of this Marine..." I will try to adopt it in my way to speak you will tell me what do you think about it...
I think they did a pretty good job creating an "esprit de corps".

I think that this is a topic of definitions.

SF= US special forces are part of the army used by the political wing to achieve special operations. They are somehow specialists of special operations.

Marines are supposed to be shock troops sent to the hot places in the battlefield and they are made as an invasion force. They are an agressive force.

But what can we say about the Rangers? if we had to sum it up in one sentence or two?

That they are in the army? that they are airborne?

And what about the equipment they carry? If there is a major difference with the other units, it can be a good clue about their purpose in the armed forces.

Chesty Puller
Dan Daley
Smedley Butler
John Basilone
Mitchell Paige
Red Mike Edson

Could all be considered in the Saint realm

Guide Book for Marines
NCO Guide
Small Wars Manual
Three Block War
Strategic Corporal
Sun Tzu

Could well fall into the "holy" book realm

Rangers are Army, they are Airborne they are also capable of other methods of insertion and extraction.

They are a top notch raiding and assault force as well as a force multiplier for SOCOM.

They are armed as light infantry.

Cooks up

Cooks up breakfast anyone !! :salute:

If it wasnt for having your full name and SSN on most of the awards and MOS's certificates we could post them here to show what cooking school we went to.

I am by no means busting on cooks, I love to eat. And the Infantry I have the highest respect for, for the love of God in the Marines we were all 03's. Times have changed thats for sure.

Like I said every job in the military deserves its respect my wife is at Camp Bucca Iraq right now and she is Admin been in for 18 years and we joke and cut up all the time.

Way to serious, everyone knows what they did or do in the military no need to fake or brag why would some one do that anyways who really cares.

Hey guys I served in the US MArines as a sniper in the Infantry and some time in the US Army 5th Special forces group.

Here lets dissect some of this and your profile info.

Marine Sniper in the Infantry.

Thats convienant since that's where the Marine Corps keeps Snipers, since Snipers have to come from 03XX fields, except for certain 02XX officer fields. So the question would be are you a Pig or a Hog??????

So you served in 5th Special Forces Group. By my reckoning that would mean......

You seperated from the Marine Corps.

Enlisted in the Army

Completed an 11 Series course at most

at least completed an Army orientation course

Maybe you came in as a Spec 4

Went to Basic Airborne Course , unless of course you were Jump Qualed in the Corps, but then we'd have to discuss your path into Scout Sniper in the Corps.

Got to your unit

Got promoted to SGT

Applied for, took, and passed the Q course for SF

Got selected for SF

Went to JFK for training

Did your 18 series training

Got assigned to 5TH Group and operationally qualed.

In 4 years.......you must be Aaron Banks reincarnated.

Unless of course you were assigned to 5th Group in a support rather
than operational capacity.

"All Marines are 03's" .................. I have never, ever heard an 03 Marine utter that. I have heard countless non-03's puff out their chest and say that.......usually followed by............."Cause every Marines a Rifleman first!" 03's are professional Riflemen other Marines are Rifle Qualified and can serve as provisional rifleman as needed but they are not 03's anymore than an 03 is an AAV crewman or Air Crew.

Really I don't care what you did in the service, what I have a problem with is ..........................................

Your time line dosen't fit.
Your answers are too far off for someone claiming what your claiming
You don't want to reveal your MOS designators, right probably classified I know.
There is a high level of pogishness to your posts.

So ethier up with it or find somewhere else.

MagForce, you have a PM, please answer the questions in it ASAP.

Hello MSG, Lower the bloodpreassure a tad, we´ll soon find out if this is legit or not.
//KJ.

KJ I replied to ya.

03 what is your beef you have no idea who I am or what I have done you really need to check yourself. I came in here just looking around hoping to meet and talk to some guys in the military aboard. Your a Moderator for this site, really I mean the Marine corps teaches if you have an issue or question for some one pull them aside and discuss it maybe PM me heck we could have resolved it right then and there with a few fax or scans if it means that much to you. I dont spend my whole day in these forums I just figured Id pop in from time to time and learn a little something about other countries and dang if I dont get blasted by someone running the board right off. Geez man ! If you wanna call it fake or immitation whatever brother no sweat I'll be a cook or weather man. Either way man thanks for the welcome next time just ask me in a PM and we can discuss it.

I spent more than just 4 years in the Army Look man give me your fax or phone number and Ill give you all you want, I'll go to my safety deposit box and get my paper work so i can prove to a Marine or reserve or what ever that I served my country and did what I said I did which wasnt much. Just curious if you question every one like this and by the way maybe we should start a different thread.

Cut me some Slack Thanks just curious 03 where you from?

Rangers tend to support SF operations---they provided security for Delta Force in Iran, etc...so I would say they are special operations forces.

The only thing a Ranger wants to be called or labled as is a Ranger. I have been set up in barracks right across the yard from them. I was outside in Army PTs like the other 99% of the Army and they all had "75th REG" PT's on. "Rangers lead the way!" plastered on their shirts.

I think the problem is the use of the term "special forces." Special Forces with a capital S and a capital F is the term used to describe the army units that are informally called "The Green Berets." They are trained more for irregular combat, counter-insurgency, etc, but are primarily known for going deep behind enemy lines and training resistance forces. In addition to special operations training, they have to be language qualified. They are also allowed to wear "green berets," hence the name, though they would never call themselves that. In fact, the official term to describe the unit would be Special Forces...hence the 10th Special Forces Group and not the 10th Green Berets.

special forces with a lower "s" and lower "f" are forces that have additionally training and specialization than your standard soldier. Rangers would be one of the these groups as with Navy Seals, Air Force Special Ops, Delta Force-though official they don't exist. Some would argue that the Marine Corps and others units such the 10th Mountain Division are also special forces because they receive a little bit more training and specialization than regular forces. Of course, then there is Marine Recon and Special Boat Squadrons which are special forces within special forces.

I agree with 13:th on this..Special Operations Forces.
Unless other nations call their Special Operations Forces, Special Forces, not an exclusive american phrase.

US Army Special Forces would be the correct term I assume.
However not as important what it is called as what they are capable to do.

You would assume right. United States Army Special Forces is the offical term and designation. But you already knew that.

So I've been away from the forum for awhile. I'm bored, reading through old posts and resurecting them for, I don't know, no particular reason.

So far, from this thread I have gleamed:

  1. MagForce (whom has gone inactive) is a poser of the worst order. And by worst order I mean he didn't even try to make himself believable. Boring.
  2. 03USMC is ever his charming and soft spoken self, always holding back and not saying how he truly feels.

Regarding Special Forces vs special forces: (US Military only)

The term Special Forces (capitalized or not, thought it should be), when describing units, groups, capabilities, organizations or individuals refers solely to US Army Soldiers selected and trained by the JFKSWCS. They've gone through Special Forces Assessment and Selection as well as completed the Special Forces Qualification Course. They wear green berets and a blue and gold tab that states "Special Forces."

The term Special Operations Forces refers to those units/groups that have been selected by the SECDEF to conduct Special Operations. It's an all encompassing term for those units that belong to USSOCOM and other SOCs. Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces and Rangers, Air Force Pararescue and Combat Control, MARSOC, etc.

The Marine Corps in general is not a Special Operations Force, it is conventional. Just as the Army's 10th Mountain Division (which isn't really a mountain division at all anymore, the tab is left for lineage) is a conventional infantry division.

03USMC pretty much covered Rangers. The 75th Ranger Regiment is the hammer in SOCOM's toolbox. It is an "elite" infantry force, structured just like a conventional infantry Regiment and capable of carrying out complex special operations or even conventional operations. Missions are more focused around direct action (DA.)
