Most people don't realise how much the germans relied on horses in WW11. It was not all tanks and trucks as shown in films. I also learned recently that Himmler had either a regiment or division of Muslims as SS troops. He liked their lack of fear of death due to their religion.

Anyone else got not so well know facts of interest about WW11??

There was a volunteer French Division in the SS, a large number of Scandinavians and Spaniards voluntarily served in the German Military, as did a number of Americans (even in the SS). The French
Commander of Indochina actively collaborated with the Japanese.

the fighting value of the french fivision (Charlemagne) was neglectable

I disagree, while the division would not be regarded as an elite formation it acquitted itself well in action and I know of no instances where they did not perform as well as could be expected.

well...most people dont know that pearl harbor was attcked by the japaneese by air...twice!

december 7, 1941 and
in june, 1942 (this one wasnt as showy as the first)...

in february 1945,the strength of the Carlemagne was 7240,in april less than thousand?

when the cut came down in france...the division decided if they had to die they would go out against the russians trying to take berlin

for whatever the reason...they took a lot of soldiers with them. they were soldiers indeed.

38 SS divisions in total; Italian, Russian, Norwegian, Danish - from all over Europe and the Baltics.

Conley, could you explain this, please?

Starting in the first week of June 1942, the IJN was busy getting its hind-end kicked by the USN, then, sailed westward and southwest as they licked their wounds.

Thanks See...better than my explanation! them four kowasaki flying boats went a long ways...oops aw heck who could spell that right!

More “myths” re WWII: at the start US aircraft were obsolete - truth- All five of the most used US fighters, or versions of them, had already flown and most were in production prior to Pear Harbor (the P-38,39,40,47 and 51, and continued in production during most of the war. Of the bombers (B-17,24,25,26) only the B-29 and A-26 were not in service at the time of Pearl Harbor, and they were Under design or prototypes being built. Our first Jet flew less than a year after Pearl Harbor and we did deploy operational Jets (Lockheed P-80’s) to the Italy and to England before the war ended.

“While civilizations live, they may still aspire, and hope -- as long as their legions can hold the far Frontier.” T.R, Fehrenbach, This Kind of War, a Study in Unpreparedness, 1963

The only operational allied jets in WW2 was the the Gloster Meteor and that was deployed into Belgium to protect the American bombers. In Sept 1945 the Meteor had fasted speed at 612 mph and it was logged as a World Record
