Some P-80 were sent to Europe for operational testing (England and Italy) in late 1944 Several missions were flown in Italy late in the war, but they never saw combat. The first P-80A operator became the 412th Fighter Group in November of 1945.


No. 616 Squadron RAF on 12 July 1944 was the first to receive operational Meteors. The Meteor was initially used to counter the V-1 flying bomb threat. After the end of the V-1 threat, and the introduction of the ballistic V-2 rocket, the RAF was forbidden to fly Meteor F.1 on combat missions over German-held territory for fear of an aircraft being shot-down and then salvaged by the Germans. No. 616 Squadron briefly moved to RAF Debden to allow USAAF bomber crews to gain experience in facing jet-engined

The P-80 did fly operational testing misions in Italy

Meteor´s was used as bomber escort in Korea but not in WWII
They flew ground attack and recon. Never seen evidence that they flew more than that.

Two RAF squadrons took the F.3 to the European continent during WWII - 616 sqd. F.3s to Brussels, Belgium on 1-20-1945; on 4-1-1945 moved into Holland; on 4-20-1945 moved into Germany to Quackenbruck (NW sector), then to Fassburg, then to Luneburg on 5-3-1945; 504 Sqd. F.3s to continent on 3-?-1945; both units conducted ground attack sorties – no air-to-air combat.
White paint was used to identify them as friendly Allied aircraft to AAA gunners – evidently none were lost to enemy or Allied action.

The F.3s combat action was strafing ground targets with 20mm cannon – no bombs or rockets were carried.

While flying over Germany, the F.3 pilots were evidently told to stay over Allied lines, and thus they never met any German aircraft in combat.

Most people don't realise how much the germans relied on horses in WW11. It was not all tanks and trucks as shown in films. I also learned recently that Himmler had either a regiment or division of Muslims as SS troops. He liked their lack of fear of death due to their religion.

Actually it was Heinrich Himmler. He led an initiative for the Nazis to produce just such a war aid, in order to stem the rise in STDs amongst German soldiers in conquered territories etc., particularly places like Paris.

It was pursued in serious scientific and technical manner with best design & academic expertise in top laboratories, taking all aspects into consideration to ensure a big winner for the troops. They suggested a number of famous sex symbols for the model they were to provide.

The only allied tank that could stand any chance of knocking out a German Panzer (excluding the Soviets amazing tankl technology) was the Sherman Firefly....and it was designed by the British (according to sources I have found many years ago so dispute as you may want).

I know that the British 1st Airbourne's first ever action was to take a German radar, get it's key components and then get out. It was initially going to be given to the Commando's because of their success in Norway but they refused the task saying the beach was too heavily defended.

The story is false. There are plenty of websites about this story. The only problem is that there never existed such a project. Also often mentioned is a Danish SS Doctor Named Olen Hannussen. The problem is that it´s not a Danish name and he never existed.
