BAGHDAD — A U.S. soldier and a Marine were among two dozen people whose deaths were reported Thursday in various incidents around Iraq.
The military said the soldier was killed Thursday by a roadside bomb in a western section of this capital city. A separate statement said the Marine died Wednesday in an incident that was not related to combat.
Elsewhere in Baghdad, a bomb inside a parked car in the Alawi neighborhood struck a police commando patrol, killing an officer and two civilians and wounding 15 people, police said.
The military said "special groups" attacked a U.S. convoy with explosives Wednesday, killing six Iraqis in the Kadhimiya district. The blast injured seven Iraqis and two U.S. soldiers. "Special groups" is a U.S. military term for Shiite Muslim militants backed by Iran.
The bodies of three men were found Wednesday in different areas of Baghdad, police said.
In the town of Ishaqi, about 50 miles north of Baghdad, several members of American-backed neighborhood security units known as Sons of Iraq repelled an attack on their homes by Al Qaeda in Iraq fighters Wednesday, killing four insurgents, U.S. forces said.
In Saadiya, near Baqubah, a roadside bomb killed two members of the Kurdish forces and wounded four, police said.
U.S. forces killed four suspected militants and arrested nine in an operation in central and northern Iraq on Wednesday and Thursday, the military said.
