U.S. soldier killed in fighting in northern Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A U.S. soldier was killed and two others injured in action
in northern Iraq, the U.S. command said Thursday.

The three soldiers were assigned to the 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team,
25th Infantry Division. They came under attack Wednesday in the Kirkuk area,
the military said.

No further details on the incident were released and the name of the soldier
who was killed was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
