BAGHDAD, Iraq - (AP) A U.S. soldier was killed south of Baghdad,
the military said Friday.
The 1st Corps Support Command Soldier died about 11:15 p.m. Thursday
near Talil, 275 kilometers (170 miles) southeast of Baghdad because of
"non-battle related causes," the military said. The brief statement provided
no details, but that term is used to describe anything from accidental
gunfire or a traffic accident to the suicide of a soldier.
The death brought to at least 2,038 the number of U.S. military
service members who have died since the Iraq conflict began in March 2003,
according to an Associated Press count.
