The Justice Department asked a federal district court to throw out all the cases filed by detainees in the war on terror being held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The move follows a federal appeals court ruling in February that the detainees cannot use the civilian court system to challenge their indefinite imprisonment. The Supreme Court declined to consider the issue this month. The appeals court will now review the work of military panels that have found each detainee to be an enemy combatant to assess whether the panels followed proper procedures. There are about 385 detainees at Guantanamo.
