Typhoon slams into eastern Chinese city

BEIJING (Reuters) - A typhoon made a direct hit on a
sprawling city in prosperous eastern China on Sunday after
nearly a million villagers and farmers had been evacuated from
flimsy coastal and hillside huts to safety.
