Historic fly by: A Spitfire and RAF Typhoon mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain Two icons of World War 2 took to the skies in a tribute to the heroes of the Battle of Britain.
An RAF Typhoon flew alongside a Hawker Hurricane to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the air battle.
The planes took off from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire to acknowledge the bravery and sacrifice of ‘The Few’ - the aircrews who took part in the Battle of Britain.
The Typhoon is painted with the identification number of the only Fighter Command pilot awarded a Victoria Cross during the battle - Flight Lieutenant James Nicolson VC DFC.
The Battle of Britain was the name given to the air campaign waged by the German Air Force against the UK in the summer and autumn of 1940.
