First nuns now marines what were the dumb a+%s at the TSA thinking. Three marines that were transporting the body of a fallen comrade were stopped and pulled out of line made to take off the blues, belts and shoes. These men were fighting to protect the United States and bringing home the body of a fellow marine. They do all of this so some high school drop out can treat them like sh*&. This just gos over the top on my BS meter. When will the TSA get there crap lined out. We cant stop the people that look like bombers that would be profiling. But we can stop nuns, baby's, and marines. Hey TSA I have an idea why not start stopping any one with a higher IQ then you, oh weight that would be every one.

If TSA is our first line of defense in air travel, we're completely screwed. There have been very few that I've met or seen that were worth a damn. Most are too inept to guard a slushie machine.

We always bypass them when we're on orders.

After what you guys know I am going through with my son at the local consulate this story does not surprise me in the least.

they don't mess around...when I came back from Iraq, I flew home in uniform. I was snagged for a random search and had to dump my overstuffed duffel bag.

There was a story where 2 national guardsmen went thru an airport security check point armed. The security guards took their keychain knives saying it was illegal to have such things. What nonsense when they had M16s with live ammo

Infact, when I was coming home. They did the same shit to me. They pulled me aisde, made me dump my gear, and also made me take off my boots.

I hate the TSA in it's current format. When the federal government took over the secuirty details at the airports. They hired all of the idiot secuirty guards that lost their jobs.

The TSA was supposed a stop gap solution for airport secuirty. Word coming over the grape vine is that the TSA will soon be a smaller department. More like a bunch of desk jockeys and that airport secuirty will fall into the hands of local LEOs.

What a croc-of-s**t

Travelling in uniform should be a green light. I've been stopped at airport security before whilst travelling with the Army, but that's cos we usually travel in civilian attire in Australia. When you get to chating with the security and they notice the slouch hat your carrying they usually "forget" the security check they were going to do. But yeah, anybody in uniform (especially something so easily recognised as Marines in Blues), should never be trageted by cheap/shoddy/inexperienced security guards.

Anybody can walk into a costume rental store or go on the web and buy anything to look like anyone. If government employees are travelling on official orders, the TSA will usually respect the orders and waive a strip search...unless...repeat unless you are carrying prohibited materials (i.e. knives, etc). Or unless the TSA guy decides to use thier bad judgement. The TSA doesn't have a monoploy on bad judgement, do they?

The TSA guys and the jarheads are fighting the same war on a different front. Both have ROE's they are trying to follow. Lets support both of them.

I don't agree with you ... they are NOT fighting the same war. If they were, there would be more coherency in the ROE's/SOP's for both forces. Common sense would tell these boobs at the airport that a Marine in uniform with orders in hand, escorting a fallen warrior's body home, does NOT fall inside the scope of his ROE's/SOP's as a 'target of interest' (especially when they are 'officially' carrying weapons). [When I escorted my friend's body, I was armed with a 45 cal pistol with two clips of ammo ... one in the pouch and one in the weapon].

Some of the idiots (TSA), that have been hired to man the trenches in our airports WERE some of the dumbest of the dumb. Anyone of moderate intelligence was already working in the security industry and wanted nothing to do with government red tape (myself included).

They had to dumb down the requirements at least once (I saw two different 'requirement' worksheets for application). At the time I was considering joining the inspection teams and then did a little investigating of my own. I decided I wanted nothing to do with the red tape and BS that was in the process of being formulated ... I have seen nothing since that has changed my mind.

Why am I not surprised? Refering to someone as an "idiot" is always an effective way to build mutual respect and understanding.

Like it or not, right now the folks at DHS and the TSA have more in common with the Marines fighting the war on terrorism than with you or I. I'm sure OSB and his ilk are glad to hear you hold them in such high esteem.

lol What a silly statement. The TSA has nothing in common with the US military fighting the GWOT.

LOL What a load of bull. Did someone feed that to you or did you make it up on your own?

Way to insult those of us that have gone down range to support and serve our country.

You support the ineptness of the TSA, I'll continue to press the US government to actually get an effective security agency to manage airport security.

This is the best department in my opinion for airport secuirty.

If the National guard is called the National Guard, why is it that they can't help protect the nation?

i had this kind if experience a few times. once when my JROTC unit was on a trip to Floridia our bags were pulled off the plane and opened because "we looked suspicious".

the best security i have seen was when i flew back from israel last summer. they had the army guarding the gates and running the searches. they were very professional and quite thourough(sic). when i went through the line wearing my unit jacket with rank they treated me as if i was already a soldier. however they gave me the same consideration as the rest of the passengers that went through their checkpoint.

I hate to bust your balloon ... the reason I called them 'idiots' is because I know several people who were hired to work for TSA ... and ... I hate to tell you this but, they ARE idiots. None of the security agencies in my area would hire these bozos.
