ADELAIDE, Australia - Top-seeded Novak Djokovic beat Australian left-hander Chris Guccione 6-3, 6-7 (8), 6-4 Sunday to win the Adelaide International.
Guccione upset second-seeded Richard Gasquet in Friday's quarterfinals of the tournament, which featured for the first time a round-robin format that led to the final three knockout rounds from Friday.
Guccione, whose world ranking is expected to improve 50 places to around 100, forced four quick break points on Djokovic in the first 12 minutes of the match, but each time the Australian was unable to convert them.
The Serbian, however, was successful on both of his break chances to take the first set.
Djokovic, ranked No. 16, had not dropped a set until Guccione won the second-set tiebreaker after a disputed call by Djokovic that created a set point for the Australian.
Upset with the call, Djokovic came out strongly in the third. He broke Guccione's serve twice to go up 4-1 before finishing off the win.
It was Djokovic's third ATP Tour tennis title.
