BAGHDAD, Oct 20 (AFP) - Three US soldiers were killed and one injured when
their combat patrol hit a a roadside bomb in the town of Balad, 70
kilometers (44 miles) north of Baghdad, the US military said in a statement
Thursday.
The soldiers were killed Wednesday evening and the injured soldier was being
treated at a military hospital, the statement read, adding no further
detail.
The latest deaths brought to at least 1,979 the number of US military
personnel killed in Iraq since the US-led invasion of March 2003, according
to an AFP tally based on Pentagon figures.
Since Saturday, the day of a largely peaceful vote on Iraq's new
constitution, 12 US military personnel have been killed in fighting with
insurgents.
