The USS Ringgold was caught aground and immobile and was forced to fight Japanese Shore Batteries. The battle, for those engaged in it, was known as Tarawa even though it took place on the island of Betio. It talks about what these men had to go through when faced with high adversity. It's a fascinating story and a great read for anyone interested in stories from WWII. If this sounds like something you're interested in I'd recommend Slugging it Out in Tarawa Lagoon
