Taiwan has shown off its military strength with a parade in Taipei to mark the country's national day.
The parade - the first in 16 years - included lines of high-tech military vehicles and more than 2,000 soldiers.
Lines of military vehicles carrying missile systems, including some domestically developed advanced missiles, drove past the presidential office.
Fighter jets and attack helicopters flew overhead.
It was a show of strength aimed at signalling to China - Taiwan's political rival - that the island could defend itself if it ever came under attack.
President Chen Shui-bian warned that China's military build-up was threatening world peace
