PHOENIX - Steve Nash, the two-time NBA MVP, sat out the Suns' game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night because of lower back spasms.
Nash, the league leader with 10.9 assists per game, also is doubtful for Saturday night's game at Utah, coach Mike D'Antoni said.
"We'll see if he responds to treatment," D'Antoni said.
The coach said Nash, who has been bothered by chronic back problems, tweaked his back Monday during practice and awoke Thursday with more spasms.
"He woke up again this morning and he was still hurting," D'Antoni said.
Nash is third on the Suns in scoring (18.7) and is among the league leaders in free throw percentage (.905).
He was replaced in the starting lineup by Leandro Barbosa.
