State Department concerned about detention of some 100 activists in Cuba

The U.S. State Department said on Tuesday it was concerned about the detentions of some 100 peaceful activists in Cuba this week but that it would not slow the restoration of diplomatic relations between Washington and Havana. State Department spokesman John Kirby said the department had seen reports about the beating and detention of a political activist in Cuba and that U.S. interests there had confirmed the detentions of almost 100 other activists on Sunday.
