That's a nice weapon. It still looks like a rifle instead of a dang breadbox. Some of the little boxy looking contraptions are so similar at both ends, I'd be afraid I'd point the wrong end. I wonder if they come with a sign "this end toward enemy?":p

Hi, who told you this?
The reflex sight is zeroed for 100 m. For everything above you use the 3X Telescope sight with marks for 200,400,600 and 800 m. The effective range is about 500m but I doubt that. 500m is a lot. On the shootingrange I think it´s possible, but elsewhere I think 500m is something for designated marksman or sniper. Spain uses the G36E ( now renamed in G36V) E=Export. The E only has a 1,5X telescope sight and no reflex sight.

Not it isn't. Army SFC is the only command looking at adopting it across the board at the moment but it's on hold the last I heard, which was about three days ago from a heavy collar in USASOC during a Q&A session. Common consensus is that they'll put it on hold, ask everyone what they want and then get it anyway.

It's sort of an awkward weapon, and it isn't very ergonomic, that and it's not fully complete yet. A lot of the guys I work with prefer the HK and are pushing for that. Having fired both, I prefer the HK416 and 417. Some little complains about the FNC is that it is very bulky, the stock is a pain in the butt, and the picatinney rails are add ons.

Not sure what they'll end up doing.

You mean there is no country with that standard issue? The gun is great!

Everybody thinks new stuff is great, but it isn't always. I'm a fan of the HK, but I wouldn't call it great until I've had some time behind the trigger. The thing is, it's not a big enough improvement over the M4 (and others) to justify re-outfitting an entire conventional force, but it's a nice enough emprovement to justify outfitting specific units, like SOF.

Well, it is a good gun, very loow maintenance too. You should try firing one of those in US!

They aren't low maintenence at all, no more than the M4. I've fired mine several times, as well as the ones we have in our arms room.

My point was, just because it looks good on paper, don't always assume it is. It IS a good gun, but it's not some great new creation worthy of replacing functioning M4s for an entire conventional force.

I agree with you PJ.
Have you also seen/fired/used the HK417? I only heard rumors about it. What do you think, is the higher power of the 7.62 worth the heavyer weight of the ammo? On my opinion (while I´m not a real pro), yes! 7.62 gives you more knockdown power than the 5.56, but this was enough discussed in other threads. Just my poor opinion.
