Im currently looking for information about Spetsnaz.
Mainly the army Spetsnatz, and some Alfa, Beta, Vympel.

The info i have so far is mainly old. 1950 up the early 90.
I figured that since the Russian army has been in change and have been so for the last 13 years or so, im guessing everything that is about Spetsnaz has to be after 2005.

Or it tends to be to old.

Yeah I've only ever found old stuff. Most reacent was some Chechnya references, but not much in detail.......

Well, for one thing, Specnaz is not just military in Russia.

Specnaz "Alfa"

(Medvedev is still President here, so, this is after 2008 but before 2012)

FSB also has other special forces-type units

but not on "Alfa" level

Oh, and they also control the Border Troops, and through them - Border Specnaz, Russian Green Berets

and other such units are under MVD (police). They are more like SWAT. All fought in Chechnya and North Caucasus though and many continue to be deployed there on rotation, in counter-terrorist operations.

Then, there's military Specnaz, under GRU (military intelligence command)

There's also Specnaz for UFSIN (Department for carrying Out Punishments), prison Specnaz, who specialize in suppressing inmate mutinies and riots and hunting down escapees

who, for example, secure court rooms during high profile, dangerous trials

There are all kinds of Specnaz in all kinds of Russian government organizations specialized in all kinds of jobs.

If you need more info, ask.

I know this is off topic but why does every building in Russia looks like a 1950's hospital ward?

thx

Nice pics =)

Any ideas of books or aticles that could be of use?

There is some information on the airborne side in the book "Organizational Change in the Russian Airborne Forces: The Lessons of the Georgian Conflict (Russia-Georgia War) - Putin, Chechnya, IL-76 Aircraft, Spetsnaz, Paratroopers Published by the Strategic Studies Institute.

http://www.amazon.com/Organizationa...68739&sr=1-47&keywords=russian+special+forces

I picked it up on Kindle for about $6, it was published in March 2013.
