 Many years ago in England, pub frequenters had a
 whistle baked into the rim, or handle, of their ceramic cups.
 When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get
 some service.
 "Wet your whistle" is the phrase inspired by this
 practice.

Hahaha, very nice information - I have heard about the elbow one before, I know it is impossible... but I still provided myself with the satisfaction of getting kind of close ;)

Here's another little useless one:

The first inter-racial kiss on TV was on Star Trek when Captain Kirk kissed Lt. Uhura. Interestingly enough, as it was 1968, most letters were favorable. They even got a letter from a Southerner who said "I'm against the mixin' of the races but when a guy like Captain Kirk meets a nice dish like Lt. Uhura he's not gonna hold back!". Nichelle Nichols who played Uhura said she kept that letter - she thought it was so funny.
